Needs and Wants

A radical gulf lies between what the ego is convinced it needs and what the soul truly needs.

The ego is convinced it needs to be loved. It is convinced it needs security. It is sure it needs to succeed and be liked. It’s only natural. All humans long for love, security, success.

It’s also not true. The soul needs but one thing.

What the heart, the soul, the true inner self needs is deep, continuous, intimate, warm relationship with the true and living God who created all. That is the God of Israel – YHWH, perfectly and completely revealed in Jesus, the Messiah.

The Divine. The Everlasting One. The Prime Mover, the Ground of Being. In God we live and move and have our being.

God is perfect, pure, everlasting, unconditional, universal, self-sacrificial, all-embracing, all-forgiving, cruciform love.

God will never leave or forsake you.

There is nothing you have ever done, are doing, or could do that can separate you from God’s love. The powers of evil are incapable of separating you from God’s love.

You don’t need a partner. You don’t need security. You don’t need money or success. You don’t need a family or someone to love you. You are whole, complete, and loved just as you are. God may give you a partner, a family, and such, and that’s a blessing. But the only thing you really truly need is Jesus. All else is secondary.
