Prayer
Prayers.
Prayers for family, loved ones, friends.
Prayers for our departed loved ones.
Prayers for the homeless, hungry, starving, displaced, incarcerated, mentally ill, sick, dying, institutionalized, marginalized, victims of hatred and racism and violence, the war-torn, and broken – all the least of Jesus’ siblings.
Prayers for an end to corruption, grift, propaganda, fascism, war, and injustice.
Prayers for righteous judgement on wicked leaders.
Prayers for renewed stewardship, environmental justice, the plight of creatures of all sorts and the environments in which they subsist.
Prayers for unity in the ecclesia.
Prayers for neighbors and enemies.
Prayers for all to come to know a touch of ineffable divine love and grace.
Prayers for peace, justice, reconciliation.
Prayers for forgiveness, mercy, and cleansing.
Prayers for wisdom and understanding, for insight and guidance.
Prayers of thanksgiving for each person, each blessing, each bit of sustainability, each birdsong and sweet fragrance; prayers of thanksgiving for every touch of grace.
Prayers of lament, outpourings of grief
Prayers that are more the shouts of defiance, the rantings against injustice
Prayers, soft and tender, bold and loud
Prayers, articulated and ineffable
Prayers accompanied with joy and sorrow, laughter and tears
Prayers without answers, lost in clouds of unknowing
Silent prayers, sitting with Jesus
Prayers to God
Do we pray for God?
God, glorious, high, exalted, almighty, omnipresent, creator, redeemer, sustainer, alpha and omega, origin and teleios, king of glory
God the holy one, too brilliant to even look upon
What can I give to such a God?
God lacks nothing
God wants something –
My love, my being, my presence
Not because God is lonely
Eternal Trinitarian perichoresis
Spills over
God’s cup overflows
Douses, splashes, immerses me
Baptizes me, engulfs me, fills and drenches me
God who is love longs for beings who want to be loved
Who choose to allow themselves to be loved
Thoroughly, unconditionally, warts and all
Prayers
Expand my heart, O Lord, to be able to receive
More and more of
Your love
